Eastern Florida State Titans’ Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor Named Region 8 Pitcher of the Week

4-1 in seven starts and has struck out 37 hitters

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College softball pitcher Mandy Hedetniema-Taylor was named the Region VIII Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday morning.

The starting pitcher from St. Augustine had two complete-game shutouts, striking out 10 without issuing a walk, and allowed five hits in a victory over Daytona State College.

Then on Saturday, Hedetniemi-Taylor held No. 13 College of Central Florida to five hits and two unearned runs, striking out two and walking two in the win.

For the season, Hedetniemi-Taylor is 4-1 in seven starts with a 1.20 ERA and has struck out 37 hitters. She is currently on a 19-inning scoreless streak.

The freshman is the first Titans softball pitcher to be named the Region VIII Pitcher of the Week since 2014 when Dajia Jones won the award.

Hedetniemi-Taylor and the Titans will travel to Santa Fe College for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
