OBITUARY: Former Cocoa High School Guidance Counselor Jimmie Newlyn Bevins Passed Away at 92

Jimmie Newlyn Bevins, 92, born on September 17, 1929, passed away on January 7, 2022. Jimmie was a high school guidance counselor at Cocoa High School and then a psychotherapist at the Brevard Mental Health Center. She opened her own therapy practice and founded Project Response, assisting and counseling many people with HIV and AIDS.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Jimmie Newlyn Bevins, 92, born on September 17, 1929, passed away on January 7, 2022.

Predeceased by her parents James and Willie Bevis, her sister Em Olivia Bevis Friedman, her brother Kenny Bevis and her oldest son Walter Nolin, Jr.

She is survived by her brother Tommy, daughter Janet, son Steve, daughter Joyce, her grandchildren Rebecca, Andrew, Robert, and Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Bentley and Juniper.

Jimmie was a high school guidance counselor at Cocoa High School and then a psychotherapist at the Brevard Mental Health Center. She opened her own therapy practice and founded Project Response, assisting and counseling many people with HIV and AIDS.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Tavares 600 West Ianthe St. Tavares, Florida.

All friends and former clients are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in her honor to Project Response or 745 S. Apollo Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32901.
