BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Margaret Mary Coon, age 89 of Cocoa, died peacefully on March 1, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a long illness. Margaret was born in England and was baptized in the Anglican church.
Her faith gave her strength and comfort throughout her life. As a child, she survived Germany’s air raids and the subsequent destruction and poverty.
She immigrated to the United States and lived in many places, from California to Maine, but called Brevard County home. She loved this country and the opportunities it provided, and she never desired to live anywhere else.
Margaret retired from Patrick Air Force Base’s Air Mobility Command. She also worked at Kennedy Space Center as a tour guide, which included giving VIP tours to government officials and military leaders.
She truly enjoyed her career and the many wonderful people she worked with. She was a strong and determined person who always found a way to succeed but donated generously to those less fortunate.
Margaret was an avid gardener and cook in her early days. She read often, enjoyed traveling, liked watching rocket launches, was a huge NFL fan, loved giving presents and took decorating Christmas trees to new levels.
She kept in touch with many dear friends who she knew for decades but was unable to reach out to them as she declined over these last few months.
Margaret is survived by her children, Gary, Sally, Cherisse, and Donald; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her in her last days and requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to those affected by the war in Ukraine. An intimate funeral will be held at a later date.
