Titusville Police Arrest Luke Rufus Burgess After Road Rage Incident Ends in Shooting

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police arrested Luke Rufus Burgess, 25, of Clermont, in connection with a road rage incident and shooting that happened at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, February 26.
Burgess was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, Criminal Mischief over $1,000, and Reckless Driving.
The preliminary investigation has revealed Burgess was driving a black 2021 Ford F250 and rear-ended by another adult male, who was driving a 2016 black Ford F-150 as they were both traveling westbound on Columbia Boulevard.
Subsequently, a woman who was driving a silver 2022 silver Toyota Corolla was just behind the initial crash and struck the Ford F-150 from behind.
The woman was left injured at the crash scene near the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Barbara A. Pill Law Enforcement Facility, located at 2290 Columbia Boulevard.
Both drivers left the scene and continued driving recklessly westbound, culminating with a final crash and altercation near 2300 Columbia Boulevard.
Burgess then fired two shots from a handgun, which struck the other vehicle and a grass median.
Titusville Police responded to both crash scenes and took Burgess into custody, who had been detained by BCSO deputies on duty at the Barbara A. Pill Law Enforcement Facility.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation by the Titusville Police Department and more charges could be forthcoming.
