Brevard County Public Works to Begin Pavement Rejuvenation Projects Starting in Late April

Roads will be treated with Reclamite, extends life of already placed asphalt
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Public Works Road & Bridge has contracted with Pavement Technology, Inc. to perform pavement rejuvenation on select Brevard County roads beginning in late April or early May.
Roads designated for rejuvenation will be treated with Reclamite, which strengthens and extends the life of already placed asphalt.
The high temperatures used during the manufacture and installation of asphalt depletes the maltene factions that give the road surface its strength and durability.
Reclaimed, a petroleum maltene-based rejuvenation agent replaces those factions and prevents premature aging.
When Reclamite is sprayed on the road, it penetrates deep into the surface to reinforce the binder that bonds the asphalt and aggregate together.
Applying Reclamite to a road improves the asphalt’s durability, flexibility, and viscosity so it can withstand the ravages of the weather, the sun’s ultraviolet rays, freeze-thaw conditions, and the weight of modern traffic.
Reclaimed seals the surface “in-depth” and preserves the pavement’s surface for many years after application.
It is currently estimated to take 21 days to treat the 630,749 square yards of the road on the current schedule.
Dry conditions are required to ensure proper penetration and bonding of materials used in the injection process, therefore residents should be aware that any rain will push scheduled work out to the next day.
