BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – To celebrate both Earth Day and Arbor Day, the City of Melbourne will be giving away trees and planting native plants at Crane Creek Reserve Golf Course on April 22.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The City will be distributing 20 live oaks, 20 buttonwoods, and 10 red maple trees free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Each tree is in a three-gallon pot, and only one tree will be available per household.

Informational material on how to properly grow and maintain your tree will provide, as well as a tree pledge.

To prevent damage to sidewalks, curbing, and underground utilities, trees provided via this program may not be planted in the right-of-way between the sidewalk and the street.

This event is part of a larger multicity initiative called “Planting 1,000 Trees on the Space Coast.”

The City of Melbourne, City of Cocoa Beach, City of Cape Canaveral, City of Satellite Beach, and the City of Titusville have committed to collectively plant at least 1,000 Florida native trees across the county in 2022.

Partners at the Arbor Day Foundation and the Florida Forest Service are also helping to make this endeavor possible.

Volunteers are welcome to help with the native plant installation.
