BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis traveled to our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Titusville, to sign into law an important piece of legislation that focuses directly on the recruitment and retention of Law Enforcement Officers in the state of Florida.

Florida House Bill 3 provides law enforcement agencies with additional tools to bolster the recruitment and retention of qualified officers, by providing financial incentives, enhanced training, expanded educational opportunities, and recognition that honors the service of law enforcement officers in the state of Florida.

The bill creates the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program that provides one-time bonus payments of up to $5,000 to newly employed law enforcement officers, creates the Florida Law Enforcement Academy Scholarship Program to cover tuition, fees, and up to $1,000 of eligible education expenses for law enforcement trainees, along with a host of other measures to support Florida’s law enforcement officers.

I would like to personally thank Governor DeSantis for standing strong with Florida’s Law Enforcement Officers and for standing strong when it comes to law and order.

In an effort to do everything possible to make sure our citizens are protected, Governor DeSantis actually met with Undersheriff Waller and me during the legislative session to discuss the issues of recruitment and retention.

In addition to meeting with Governor DeSantis to offer potential solutions and tools that could be used to recruit great law enforcement officers, we also met with Senate President Wilton Simpson who worked closely with Florida’s Speaker of the House,

Chris Sprowls and the Florida Sheriff’s Association to bring House Bill 3 into law.

I would like to personally thank Governor DeSantis for choosing to sign the original bill at our agency and also thank everyone who made House Bill 3 a reality as it extends tremendous support to Florida’s Law Enforcement Agencies who are working each and every day to keep our state safe
