OBITUARY: Ethel ‘Corinne’ Danielson, 74, of Cocoa, Passed Away April 12

Corinne enjoyed nursing, keeping nursing license through 2020 at age of 73

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Corinne Danielson of Cocoa, Florida, went to be with her Lord on April 12. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Donald Danielson, step children; Jennifer (Randy) Aumsbaugh of Inman, South Carolina, and Donald (Naida) Danielson II of Rockledge, Florida, grandchildren; Jaggar Estep and Joshua Danielson, brother; Harlee Harn, sister-in-law; Mary Jane (Ron) Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her mother Patricia Ruth Crawford Harn Hall, step-father Edwin Hall, and father Harlee James Harn.

She was born in Sarasota, Florida in 1947 and lived in southwest Florida, Venice, Laurel, and Fort Myers. She first was interested in volunteering at a nursing home in high school, and she swore she would heal the elderly. She belonged to a paramedical club in O.L.S. and always felt close to Fort Myers High School.

She attended her 25th, 30th, and 50th-year class reunions. She desired to be an executive secretary like her aunt, but changed her focus after attending Edison Community College in Fort Myers under the tutelage of Mrs. Elda Walker because interested in science. She loved zoology, biology, botany, physiology and after toying with chemistry she became her lab assistant.

Mrs. Walker was her first mentor, and after learning in lab she was able to understand anatomy as well. Mother put her foot down when a found shark was brought home from the lab to be studied. She checked out every musical album and listened to them all. Public speaking was difficult in speech class but she was able to obtain a well-earned C.

A love for gardening came from her grandmother Cora who had a nursery where she spent summers helping out. She joined the Windswept Gardening Club of Merritt Island and Titusville, and also belonged to the Brevard Genealogical Society. Corinne had scholarships to UF (where she attended one year) as well as FSU where she transferred later and graduated from the School of Nursing in 1971.

To help with expenses she participated in work study programs, summer jobs and traveled to school via bus. Her first nursing position was Naples Community College or Wuesthoff in Rockledge. Since she wanted the opportunity to visit relatives on the east coast, she settled there. She worked 5 years on the medical/surgical floor and in 1976 transferred to the ICU. Certified in critical care she worked in the ICU until 2017.

She involved herself and colleagues in educational programs and mentored many nurses via Brevard Chapter AACN by organizing lectures, seminars, and community service projects. She enjoyed nursing and called it a “noble profession,” keeping her nursing license through 2020 at the age of 73.

Corrine loved to travel, she went to Europe and learned to ski in Nevada, always enjoying visits to friends and family along the way. She especially loved visiting different places on wedding anniversaries with Don, always enjoying nature and Florida’s wonders from lakes, prairies, swamps, and seashores.

Reading books and newspapers and visiting landmarks of history was always special. Reading and open discussion of family, politics, religion, cooking was encouraged by mom who took family to the library to check out books to read. Grandmother Harn instilled ethical, moral, and religious values.

Many summers were spent at grandmother’s and at church singing hymns and listening to her play the piano.

From all of these experiences, she developed compassion, forgiveness and a quest for knowledge and being able to survive in this world. Her strong faith was blessed with baptism by Pastor Bill Maddox at First Christian Church in Labelle, Florida in 2018.

A celebration of Life will be held at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, on Friday, April 22 with a visitation at 1 p.m. and her funeral service at 2 p.m.
