Palm Bay Police to Host Remembrance Ceremony Today to Honor the Late Officers Grogan, Johnson

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police to host a remembrance ceremony for the 35-year anniversary of the tragic loss of Officers Ronald Grogan and Gerald Johnson.

Both officers responded to a shooting and hostage situation on April 23rd, 1987, in which the gunman not only took the lives of Officers Grogan and Johnson but also killed four citizens and wounded more than a dozen others before he was taken into custody.

Due to the heroic actions of these two officers, and others, several lives were saved that day.

This coming Thursday, April 21st, Chief Augello will hold a remembrance ceremony at 9:00 a.m. at Sacrifice Park (in between City Hall and the Franklin T. DeGroodt Public Library).

The media and public is invited to attend.

“We will never forget the sacrifice both officers made that day and we will always honor their memory and service to our city,” said Palm Bay Police.
