(FOX NEWS) – Sen. Marco Rubio issued a warning to Americans after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that his agency has established a body to combat misinformation ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.
During a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, Mayorkas revealed the creation of a “Disinformation Governance Board.”
“A lot of people don’t know thisyet , but the Department of Homeland Security has just set up a special office that is going to be a speech police,” Rubio, a Florida Republican, said in a video posted to Twitter.
“This is under the Department of Homeland Security, so instead of the Department of Homeland Security focused on stopping drugs from coming into America, or securing the border, stopping illegal immigration, they’re not going to be focused on that. They’re focused on policing speech, on making sure that people can’t share information or say things that they decide is misinformation.”
