29-Year-Old Merritt Island Man Dies in Four-Vehicle Collision Involving Two Motorcyclists

A tragic four-vehicle collision in Orange County killed a 29-year-old Merritt Island man and injured three people on Sunday in a crash that involved two motorcycles and two vehicles.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A tragic four-vehicle collision in Orange County killed a 29-year-old Merritt Island man and injured three others on Sunday in a wrong-way crash that involved two motorcycles and two vehicles.

Two of the three people injured are identified as Brevard County residents, a 63-year-old man from Melbourne, who was one of the motorcyclists and a 52-year-old man from Cocoa Beach, who was driving a Mazda 6.

A third person injured is identified as a 43-year-old man from Oviedo who was driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger and driving the wrong-way on Colonial Dr.

The investigation has revealed the Oviedo man was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Colonial Drive around 12:29 a.m. when he struck two Harley-Davidson motorcyclists and a Mazda 6 traveling in the inside lanes near Lansing St.

The 29-year-old motorcyclist from Merritt Island was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 63-year-old motorcyclist from Melbourne, and 52-year-old man from Cocoa Beach, were both taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to FHP.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger suffered only minor injuries.

East Colonial Drive was closed in both directions for over 12-hours while authorities processed the crash scene. East Colonial Drive has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
