Although some people like being alone, there are plenty of others that do not and even some of those that say they like being alone change their minds after an hour or so. However, if you are waiting for other house members to come home so that you are not alone the worst thing you can do is clock watch, this will make the time they are absent seem that much longer and time will feel that it is going so slowly it could almost be moving backward.

So, the trick is to keep your mind busy, and luckily, there are plenty of ways of doing this.

Read a book

Immersing yourself in a good book with an excellent plot can be a great way of spending your spare time and if you are waiting for other members of your household to return home, it will also take your mind off of the clock.

It is a good idea to make sure that you find yourself a warm and comfortable area to sit and be sure to have your favorite beverage and food snacks within easy reach so that your reading is not interrupted by going backward and forwards to the kitchen for supplies.

Play online games

Another brilliant way of moving the mind away from clock watching is to play games. There are plenty of online games available that can be accessed and played on your cell phone, so you do not need to have access to a computer or even a laptop unless you want to play specifically on these devices.

Obviously, the best games to play are those that take your concentration and make you fully involved in what is happening on your screen. These are games such as Australian casino games which offer such specialties as pokies, bingo, blackjack, and video poker to name a few. Some of these games require skill and attention to detail whereas others just require concentration, but all are fun and will definitely help you pass the time in a very enjoyable way.

Watch a movie

Although when you are on your own you may not necessarily feel like watching a movie (or starting one), you may actually find it a lot more enjoyable especially if there is one member of your household that likes to interrupt or talk over the dialogue, or (even worse) likes to inform the room what is going to happen next and ruin any unforeseen plot twists.

However, in saying that, there are probably some movies that you may wish to stay away from when you are on your own, and these, of course, are the white-knuckle horror movies.

Scaring yourself witless while you are on your own is opening the door to all kinds of night-time horrors, indeed the last thing your housemates or partner wants to do is peel you off of the ceiling just because they have walked into the room. You are probably best sticking to the light-hearted comedies or action movies especially if they involve your favorite actor or actress in them.
