SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: Earlier today our BCSO Parkway Team helped K-9 Junny celebrate his 8th Birthday with presents, great food, and love. As part of the celebration, Junny got a great new ball for his birthday, and even though his Veterinarian didn’t like it, a great big slice of cake. (BCSO image)

“While we always celebrate K-9 Junny’s birthday at our agency, we also hold close in our hearts his namesake, Junny Rios-Martinez who was abducted and murdered in our community back in 1991.” – Sheriff Ivey

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Earlier today our BCSO Parkway Team helped K-9 Junny celebrate his 8th Birthday with presents, great food, and love. As part of the celebration, Junny got a great new ball for his birthday, and even though his Veterinarian didn’t like it, a great big slice of cake.

While we always celebrate K-9 Junny’s birthday at our agency, we also hold close in our hearts his namesake, Junny Rios-Martinez who was abducted and murdered in our community back in 1991.

Junny’s death deeply impacted our entire community and when K-9 Junny first came to our agency at just 10 weeks old, we did a “name that puppy” contest where the name “Junny” was chosen as a lasting legacy to Junny Rios-Martinez.

Ironically, K-9 Junny arrived at our agency two weeks before he would be formally named in honor of Junny and it is my belief that it was always God’s plan to name K-9 Junny after Junny Rios-Martinez because K-9 Junny came to our agency on May 6, 2014, and Junny was born on May 6 of 1979.

Please forever keep the family of Junny Rios-Martinez in your thoughts and prayers and also thank you for all of the love you show K-9 Junny each and every day in our community.

– Sheriff Wayne Ivey
