Mims Woman Killed on I-95 After Attempting to Retrieve Dogs on Southbound Lanes, Animals Caught Safely

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that took place on Interstate 95 on Saturday morning.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian that took place on I-95 near mile marker 243 in Volusia County Saturday morning.

According to officials, the victim was traveling southbound on I-95 and stopped on the shoulder to switch driving positions with the passenger around 6:10 a.m..

As the victim exited the vehicle, two dogs managed to run out of the car and into the highway.

The Mims woman chased after the dogs and was struck by the front of a van.

Florida Highway Patrol reported the victim dead at the scene.

The two dogs were caught and put back safely into the vehicle uninjured.

This crash remains under investigation.
