ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Head coach Johnny Dawkins and the UCF men’s basketball team added to its roster on Thursday with the addition of Indiana big man Michael Durr.
“We’re excited to have Michael join our UCF Family. He’s a versatile big and he’s going to step in and help provide an immediate defensive impact in the paint, which is vital to our success,” said head coach Johnny Dawkins.
“Michael’s ability to defend and rebound at a high level, as well as his previous experience in The American, will be important assets to our team. He’s a versatile scorer both in the low post and on the perimeter, and we can’t wait to get him on campus and get to work.”
Standing in at seven feet tall and approximately 250 pounds, Durr suited up in 30 games last season for the Hoosiers. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game, and he shot 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.
He also added 14 assists and 10 of his 31 boards were of the offensive variety.
Before his time in Indiana, Durr was a three-year starter at South Florida, where he averaged 6.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game. In three years with the Bulls from 2018-to 21, he started 85 of 87 games.
In his final season with the Bulls in 2020-21, Durr started all 19 games and averaged a career-best 8.8 points and 7.9 rebounds.
He finished fourth in the AAC in rebounding, eighth in free throw percentage (79.0 percent) and blocked shots (0.9), scored in double figures nine times and had three double-doubles.
He had a career-high 18 points at Wichita State (March 6, 2021), where he posted career-bests in threes (2) and field goals made (6).
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Durr played his high school ball at Victory Rock Prep in Bradenton, Florida. He joins twins Taylor and Tyler Hendricks as the newest addition to UCF’s 2022-23 recruiting class.
