948-foot ship can accommodate more than 3,500 passengers

TURKS AND CAICOS – Port Canaveral-based Carnival Freedom caught fire at the dock in Grand Turk on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the fire broke out inside the ship’s funnel but was quickly extinguished as the ship was docked in the capital of Turks and Caicos, according to a Carnival spokesperson.

“All guests and crew are safe, and the ship’s guests were cleared by local authorities to go ashore. We continue to assess the situation,” a spokesperson said.

According to officials, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The 948-foot ship, which can accommodate more than 3,500 passengers, departed Port Canaveral on Monday for a five-day cruise.
