WATCH: Mel-High rallied for the winning run when sophomore Hailey Turner led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple. Then, with two out, Kylah Berry laid down a bunted that allowed Turner to score the game-winner.
CLERMONT — The Melbourne High School softball team won the FHSAA Class 6A state semifinals in a thrilling walk-off 1-0 8-inning game over Pace, and will now face Doral Academy on Saturday afternoon for the state championship.
The Bulldogs’Jazzy Francik was brilliant in the circle, shutting out the Patriots in the extra-inning game, and fanning 15.
Mel-High rallied for the winning run when sophomore Hailey Turner led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple. Then, with two out, Kylah Berry laid down a bunted that allowed Turner to score the game-winner.
The Bulldogs (25-2-1) will now take on the Doral Academy Firebirds (24-4-1) in the FHSAA Class 6A state championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
