4 Reasons to Use Better Quality Baby Wipes

As a new parent, you’ll plan and prepare for your baby’s arrival. You’ll research products, stock up on necessities, and do whatever you can to be fully prepared for all the things your baby needs. There’s only so much preparing you can do as a parent because nothing compares to first-hand experience.

What you will come to realize (or may already realize) is that your needs change. If you think a change in baby wipes is needed, read on to learn why you should choose a better quality product.

1. You’re Not Happy With the Ingredients in Your Wipes

As you continue learning about the health of your baby, you may become more conscious of the ingredients in your little one’s products. Baby wipes are one product that is often filled with harmful ingredients. Nearly 90% of mainstream baby wipes contain some form of plastic. These plastic resins, when secreted, can be harmful to your baby’s health.

There are tons of other ingredients in mainstream baby wipes that are harmful to health like parabens, latex, rubber, heavy metals, chlorine bleaching, or phthalates. Some baby wipes contain fragrances and dyes that can irritate your baby’s skin.

You don’t have to settle for a product filled with harmful ingredients. There are quality all-natural baby wipes on the market, like Coterie, that are made primarily with water and very few additional ingredients that won’t cause harm to your baby.

2. Your Baby Has Sensitive Skin

All babies by nature have sensitive skin but some babies have particularly sensitive skin. If your baby wipes leave your little one with a rash, redness, or irritation, that’s a sign that they may require a gentler product. Often, babies will react to the harmful ingredients in wipes, as mentioned above.

A good rule of thumb for your baby with sensitive skin is to look for products that have been accepted by the National Eczema Association. Products with this seal of acceptance are awarded for products that are gentle enough for people with eczema and sensitive skin, so you can trust that these are safe for your little one. You can also look for products that have been recommended by pediatricians and dermatologists.

3. You’re Environmentally Conscious

Cloth diapering might not be your thing as a parent, but you’re still looking for a way to reduce your environmental impact. Or maybe you are using cloth diapers but you’re choosing disposable wipes instead of reusable ones. Perhaps the baby wipes you’re using may not be friendly to the environment, so you’re looking to make a change.

A lot of the ingredients in mainstream baby wipes are damaging to the environment. The vast majority that is made with plastic is the root cause of this because plastic is not biodegradable. The plastic breaks apart into microplastics that are littered into the environment and take decades and decades to decompose.

Wipes that are made with all-natural ingredients are biodegradable and decompose much quicker. Coterie baby wipes, for example, can decompose quicker than an apple, which decomposes in about 2 months.

4. Your Baby Wipes Aren’t Doing the Trick

Not all wipes work the same. There are plenty of baby wipes that, for one reason or another, just don’t do a great job of cleaning up your little one. Some are much too dry and leave you having to put extra pressure to clean up stinky messes. Having to rub harder on your baby can lead to irritation or a rash.

Depending on the age of your baby or toddler, you may be changing diapers six to ten times per day, which means you use a lot of baby wipes. It can seem pretty wasteful. When you have a high-quality baby wipe, you’ll find you use less which means you’re saving more (for the environment and your pocket).

When it comes to your little one, you want only the best quality products for them. As you learn more about your baby, you’ll discover which products work well and which ones don’t. If your current baby wipes aren’t cutting it anymore, consider switching to a product that’s better quality, with better ingredients, that’s much better for your precious baby.
