Bicyclist Dead After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on SR-520 Causeway in Merritt Island

A bicyclist was killed Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle on the SR-520 Causeway heading westbound.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A bicyclist was killed Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle on the SR-520 Causeway heading westbound.

According to a report by Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on SR-520, on the paved shoulder, approaching the Hubert Humphrey Bridge when he was struck by the vehicle and ejected into the Indian River.

US Coast Guard Search and Rescue later located the man in the Indian River where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and state troopers say they do not have a description of the vehicle.

The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released.
