TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA – The defending back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, Tampa Bay Lightning, are returning to the Stanley Cup Final for a third straight year after defeating the New York Rangers 2-1 at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

The Lightning were led once again by  goalie Adrei Vasilevsky who recorded 20 saves and captain Steven Stamkos who scored the team’s two goals, including the winning goal with 6:32 left in the third period.

The two goals by Stamkos brings his career total playoff goals to 41, third most in franchise history.

“We know we didn’t play great in the first two-games but we fought through it,” said Lightning captain Steven Stamkos.

“These are the games you live for growing up as a kid. It was everything I thought it was going to be and more. To give ourselves a chance to go to the Finals for a third straight year is something that is amazing and to have a part in it was certainly icing on the cake.”

The Lightning will now play a hot Colorado Avalanche team who swept Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Championship.

Game 1 between Tampa Bay and Colorado is set for Wednesday night in Denver. Puck drops at 8 p.m. ET.
