Fatal Crash Involving Pedestrian on State Road 528 Forces Closure of All Westbound Lanes Between Cocoa, Merritt Island

POLICE: traffic homicide investigation underway

Cocoa police are advising motorists that the westbound lanes of State Road 528 are shut down between Cocoa and Merritt Island due to a traffic homicide investigation where a vehicle struck a pedestrian. According to a Cocoa police official, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police are advising motorists that the westbound lanes of State Road 528 are shut down between Cocoa and Merritt Island due to a traffic homicide investigation where a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

According to a Cocoa police official, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.

All westbound traffic is being rerouted at State Road 3 on the Merritt Island side and is not allowed to cross and the road closure will be in place for several hours, officials say.

Officials are asking motorists to avoid the crash scene and to use an alternate route.
