BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Here we are in the heart of summer and it is a time to rejuvenate and get ready for the rest of the year.

Here are a few things going on with the Tourism Office:

■ We welcome our new Deputy Director, John Giantonio. John moved here from Wyoming recently to accept this position, but has a long history in Florida, having served as the Sports Commissioner for Seminole County and St. Pete/Clearwater area. He has nearly 30 years of experience working with convention and visitor bureaus, as well as sports commissions. Welcome, John!

■ The 2022-23 budgeting and marketing planning period has begun and we will present both our budget and marketing plan to the TDC later in July before going to the Board of County Commissioners in August. The new fiscal year begins October 1.

■ The Tourism Office serves on 2 Emergency Support Functions for the Emergency Operations Center – ESF 14 (Communications) and 18 (Business and Industry). As we are a month into hurricane season, it is an important role we help play.

■ Grant season is upon us and we have three grant programs that are open: Cultural Support Grant, Tourism + Lagoon Grant, and Capital Facilities Grant. We will be awarding over $3.5 million in funds to the recipients. Committees will be working hard to evaluate applications and score the grants and then making recommendations to the TDC and Board in the coming months.

So lots to do, but as usual the team is up to it!
