DENVER, FLORIDA (NHL) – For the third time in the 2022 postseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning dropped a Game 1 on the road.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final will sting a little more, however, after the Bolts erased an early two-goal deficit, only to fall 4-3 to the Avalanche in overtime at Ball Arena on Wednesday.

It was Andre Burakovsky who was the hero for the hosts, burying a feed from Valeri Nichushkin at 1:23 of the extra session to give Colorado the Game 1 victory and the early series lead.

Nick Paul, Ondrej Palat and Mikhail Sergachev all scored for the Bolts.

Andrei Vasilevskiy was saddled with the loss, despite making 34 saves on 38 shots. At the other end of the ice, Darcy Kuemper finished with 20 stops.

The series will resume on Saturday with Game 2 set for 8 p.m. ET at Ball Arena.
