TAMPA, FLORIDA – The Tampa Bay Lightning desperately needed a win tonight to avoid going down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. The Bolts did just that with a statement win at Amalie Arena in Game 3 by way of a 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
The defending back-to-back Stanley Cup champ Lightning utilized four goals in the second period to pull away from a red hot Avalanche squad that had won seven-straight playoff games prior to Monday night.
After giving up seven goals in Game 2, Lightning goalie Andre Vasilevskiy bounced back with a remarkable night between the posts by recording 37 saves.
The Avalanche pulled goaltender Darcy Kuemper from Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final after the Tampa Bay Lightning took a 5-2 lead halfway through the second period Tuesday night.
The Lightning are looking to complete their quest for the NHL’s first three-peat in nearly 40 years.
Colorado continues to lead the series 2-1, but the Lightning will have an opportunity Wednesday night to even the series in Tampa.
Game 4 is set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET from Amalie Arena.
