BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Nursing, Aerospace Technology and Welding are part of a newly launched Money-Back Guarantee program at Eastern Florida State College, with students who enroll and complete their studies and are not employed within six months after graduation eligible to request a tuition refund.

The Florida Legislature passed the Money-Back Guarantee plan in 2021 as part of the Reimagining Education and Career Help Act to attract more students to in-demand job fields.

State colleges were required to designate eligible programs by this July as part of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s major initiative to make Florida the national leader in workforce development.

“EFSC prides itself on a wide range of programs that make students highly employable upon graduation, and the Money-Back Guarantee effort is another way for us to cement that commitment,” said Eastern Florida President Dr. Jim Richey.

“It’s a great idea that we strongly support.”

Increasingly, EFSC is becoming the go-place to educate new employees for Space Coast business and industry, with the high-tech and healthcare fields constantly seeking new employees.

The importance of the effort in Brevard County was recently shown in a conference at EFSC that drew about 50 state leaders in government, education, and high technology to discuss strategies to grow the local workforce.

During the session, attendees heard calls for additional training in fields such as aerospace and engineering technology, aviation, advanced manufacturing, computer technologies, robotics, and composites fabrication.

EFSC’s workforce training efforts recently received a significant boost with the Florida Legislature and Gov. DeSantis awarding EFSC nearly $21 million in funding for a pair of major new high-tech centers.

They are a Center for Innovative Technology Education on the Melbourne Campus that’s scheduled to open in 2024, and an Aerospace Center of Excellence on the Titusville Campus that’s planned to open in 2023.

In April, the college also announced a 10-year plan to invest $87 million in its Cocoa Campus, with a major focus on high-tech training programs and new facilities to support them, including an Advanced Manufacturing Center, a Science building with classrooms, and labs, and a renovated Health Sciences Center.
