Former Eastern Florida State Soccer’s Bunny Shaw Scores 2 Goals to Help Jamaica Qualify for World Cup

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer standout Bunny Shaw scored two goals and had an assist to lead Jamaica past Haiti 4-0 in a Concacaf W Championship group stage play.

Shaw played her first two years of college soccer at Eastern Florida State College, earning NSCAA first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America honors in 2016.

In 2017, Shaw transferred to the University of Tennessee, was named to the All-SEC first team in both her seasons with Tennessee, and was awarded SEC Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2018.

Shaw, the captain of the Raggae Girlz, punched their ticket to the World Cup for the second straight season on Tuesday. The team finished group plays with a 2-1-0 record to finish in second place in Group A.

Jamaica defeated Mexico 1-0 in its opening match on July 4. Shaw scored three times in the group stage to help the Raggae Girlz clinch a spot in the 2023 FIFA World Cup that will be played in Australia and New Zealand.

Jamaica will now play Canada on Thursday in the semifinals of the Concacaf W Championship.

The winner will advance to next Monday’s final against the United States and Costa Rica winner. The loser will play in the third-place match Monday.

The champion will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup (CWGC), to be held in 2024.

The runner-up and third-place teams will also square off in a Concacaf Olympic play-in series, scheduled for September 2023. The winner of that play-in series will also qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 CWGC.
