BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 4th of July is a day we celebrate the United States commemoration for the Declaration of Independence. It is also the kickoff for spending time with family and friends with summer fun, BBQ’s, and fireworks.

Fireworks can be dangerous and often deadly if mishandled.

According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission 2021 Fireworks Annual report for the US in 2020 saw a 50% increase in injuries and deaths than in 2019.

For everyone’s safety:

■ Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks. Remember, even seemingly harmless sparklers can reach temperatures as high as 2,000 degrees.
■ Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Never consume alcohol while working with fireworks.
■ Avoid buying fireworks packaged in brown paper, which often means they were made for professional displays and could be dangerous for consumers.
■ Make sure you and your family watch fireworks displays from a safe distance while practicing responsible social distancing.
■ Call 911 immediately if someone is injured from fireworks.

Follow these tips and enjoy a safe and happy 4th of July!
