BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The 920th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was recently awarded the 2021 Air Force Reserve Command Maintenance Section of the Year award for maintaining exemplary combat readiness and for providing outstanding contributions to the Air Force Reserve mission from January 01, 2021, to December 31, 2021.

“This is a reflection of all levels of leadership in the squadron. From the lower level, it reflects the individual Airmen’s strong work ethics, from the mid-level supervisor it reflects good management, and training, and for the senior noncommissioned officers it’s a reflection of their unit and resource management as well as their vision for the unit,” said Major Stephen Miller, 920th AMXS commander.

According to the award, the 920th AMXS performed maintenance for more than 65 percent of the wing’s flying mission, which led to more than 500 flying sorties focused on the wing’s mission of rescuing isolated personnel.

The squadron uses its skills to effectively maintain the wings of 10 HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters. They perform daily maintenance which can include engine checks, fuel changes, and propeller testing.

They look over the aircraft for any issues and make repairs before flights while referring to their checklists and manuals to stay organized and to ensure procedures are always followed.

“The 920th AMXS are without a doubt some of the hardest working maintainers in the Air Force. They complete daily maintenance successfully, on time, and with a good attitude. They are very deserving of an award like this,” said Chief Master Sgt. George Taylor, 920th AMXS superintendent.
