Among our freedoms is the ability to travel around the country without restriction

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As we come upon the July 4th weekend, I have to think about what a great country we live in.

The many freedoms we enjoy and sometimes take for granted, are certainly not lost on the rest of the world as many struggle with governments that don’t afford them the personal freedoms that we have.

One of those freedoms is the ability to travel around without restriction. COVID certainly reminded us that vacation travel is not only fun, but a necessary part of our being an American.

And it is built into our culture that we are able to take that family vacation. Millions of Americans will be exercising that freedom this summer.

In fact, AAA has said it will be the busiest summer vacation season in history. And that is even with soaring gas and airplane ticket prices. But, many states have been locked down for two years and Florida is a very desirable destination that has remained open.

So expect to see busy roads and beaches, but remember that people are just exercising their freedom to travel and that is something worth celebrating. My wife and I will be enjoying our freedom to travel by going to the mountains of North Carolina.

I often say I don’t really need a vacation because I live in the vacation mecca of the world. But, it is always good to see other areas and experience different cultures. It’s what makes travel such an engaging activity.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to do that summer vacation this year and hope that we can get back to some level of normalcy as we do so.
