BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Artists will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Merritt Island Public Library, located at 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway.

Keith Straley will present a workshop on “Grab Bag Color Theory,” and will explore spinning with different colored fibers. Fiber artists who don’t spin will explore interesting insights on color theory and learn what goes into yarn construction.

When buying prepared fiber for spinning, it often comes in a limited palette of colors.

This workshop will look at ways to get the most use out of various colorways by deconstructing them and recombining the colors in new ways.

Each participant will receive 2 ounces of combed merino wool in an assortment of colors as well as a handout detailing the information presented in the workshop. Participants will be encouraged to spin up their fiber and use it in a project to bring for a future show and tell.

The meeting is free and open to the public but a suggested donation of $8 is requested for the grab bags and handout.

Since 1983, SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more.

The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about fiber arts.
