WATCH: Space Coast Daily is sharing a new series called Health First Medical Minute, as Brevard’s largest health care provider continues to highlight and address important health concerns in our community. In this episode, Health First Radiation Oncologist Dr. Bhavana Chapman’s shares the importance of PSA prostate screenings. The PSA screening is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Space Coast Daily is sharing a new series called Health First Medical Minute, as Brevard’s largest health care provider continues to highlight and address important health concerns in our community.

In this episode, Health First Radiation Oncologist Dr. Bhavana Chapman’s shares the importance of PSA prostate screenings. The PSA screening is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer.

Dr. Chapman is a board-eligible Radiation Oncologist who joined Health First after completing her residency at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

She is skilled in advanced radiotherapy techniques including image-guided radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiotherapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, and stereotactic body radiotherapy to treat a wide range of cancers including breast, lung, head and neck, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, genitourinary and central nervous system malignancies.

Dr. Chapman received her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she graduated summa cum laude with distinction in Senior Research Thesis.

She earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh and participated in the Physician Scientist Training Program there. She subsequently completed her Preliminary Medicine Internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

During her residency at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Chapman was recognized with the Dr. Mary Fletcher Memorial Award for her exceptional and compassionate clinical care. She has earned numerous awards, most recently the Susan Papizan Dolan Endowed Fellowship in Breast Oncology for Research Excellence and the Dr. Luis Delclos Research Award.

She has received research and educational support from the National Institutes of Health, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Radium Society. Dr. Chapman is a published author of multiple peer-reviewed research studies and book chapters in the field of radiation oncology.
