FHP: Pedestrian Killed in Vehicle Crash Friday Morning on N. Courtenay Parkway in Merritt Island

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were on the scene of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning. The crash, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian, occurred on N. Courtenay Parkway and Queensland Avenue in Merritt Island. The identity of the pedestrian, a 36-year-old woman from Cocoa, has not yet been released by authorities.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were on the scene of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning.

The crash, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian, occurred on N. Courtenay Parkway and Queensland Avenue in Merritt Island.

The identity of the pedestrian, a 36-year-old woman from Cocoa, has not yet been released by authorities.

According to Florida Highway Patrol and Lt. Public Information Officer Tara Crescenzi, the crash involved a 2017 Jeep Limited, a 2018 Chevy Sonic and an adult pedestrian.

Lt. Crescenzi said the 2018 Chevy Sonic and 2017 Jeep Limited were traveling southbound on North Courtenay Parkway approaching Queensland Avenue in the inside lane.

The pedestrian was walking in an easterly direction crossing the southbound lanes of North Courtenay Parkway, not within a crosswalk when the incident occurred.

According to Lt. Crescenzi, the pedestrian entered the direct path of the Chevy Sonic, and due to this impact, the pedestrian fell in the roadway in the direct path of the Jeep.

“Both drivers were not injured and remained on-scene,” said Lt. Crescenzi. “The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on-scene.”

Traffic Homicide Investigators were on the scene investigating the fatal collision, and this crash remains under investigation.
