BREVARD COUNTY • KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA – Launch Credit Union reopened its multi-function facility branch at Kennedy Space Center on Aug. 2 after a long-awaited remodel.

The branch sits adjacent to NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building and serves employees at Kennedy Space Center.

A Launch Credit Union spokesperson said many KSC employees visited the branch during their breaks throughout the day to enjoy complimentary food, drinks, giveaways, and to enter prize drawings.

NASA’s KSC Center Director Janet Petro was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and to help welcome Launch Credit Union back. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Launch Credit Union’s CFO Kevin LeBeau recalled a story from the original days at KSC.

“Back before the MFF branch was opened at KSC, the credit union operated in a small room the size of a large closet at the Launch Control Center,” said LeBeau.

“Back then tellers would start their day by picking up their money at the headquarters office, then get on a bus and go to work at the LCC, then ride the bus back with their cash drawers on their laps. One day a teller dropped her teller drawer on the bus and all the KSC employees on the bus helped her pick up her change. Thanks to their help, she balanced to the penny that day, every cent was still there.”

Launch Credit Union’s Erika Coppen manages all three KSC branches and said she is happy to have the branch back open.

“We are thrilled to be back in business again here at the MFF and helping our KSC employees with their financial needs,” said Coppen.

“Between the remodel and COVID, we have missed serving our members here. But now that we are reopened, our members are finding out that we have even more financial products and services to fit their needs. They are very happy and so are we.”

Launch Credit Union is the only financial institution on the property at Kennedy Space Center, which includes a branch in the Central Campus building on NASA Causeway and a branch located at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

Established in 1963, Launch Credit Union is a full-service credit union, rated 5-Stars on Bauerfinancial.com and fourth Best-In-State Credit Unions by Forbes and Statista in 2020.

Launch Credit Union has 17 branches throughout Brevard and Volusia counties serving more than 75,000 members. The asset size is $1.1 billion, and the company has 280 full-time employees.

Membership is open to all who live, work, worship or attend school in Brevard, Volusia, Flagler, Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.
