Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Delivers an Update on Tropical Storm Ian

By  //  September 25, 2022

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – By now everyone is keeping a close eye on the potential track of Hurricane “Ian” and what the storm may mean to our community, as we all try to decipher the various spaghetti models that are out there.

With that said, I wanted to share with everyone the very latest information that we have on the storm, while also reminding everyone not to wait until the last minute to complete their “Hurricane Preparedness Checklist.”

Currently the path of the storm is projected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast or even the panhandle area depending on if the storm intensifies and slows down. This storm has the potential to be an extremely powerful and dangerous storm and that is why we are not going to take it lightly.

Even though the current tracks take it to our West Coast, it still has to encounter the elevated mountains of Cuba which has the ability to cause the storm to wobble instead of wiggle and then it’s a whole new ballgame.

On it’s current track, our biggest threat will be flooding as our community is already pretty saturated from the tremendous amounts of rainfall that we have encountered over the course of the past few weeks. As a reminder, our agency in partnership with the Brevard County EOC is facilitating sandbag distribution locations throughout Brevard County, through tomorrow evening at 6:00 P.M. For more information on the various locations please visit www.embrevard.com where you will find the addresses for the four different locations.

While we wait on the latest updates and potential path of Hurricane “Ian” from the National Weather Center, what I am asking our community to do is to use this time to finalize your “Hurricane Preparedness Checklist.”

In doing so, we can work together to make sure that your family, your home, your business, and your pets, are all prepared to embrace the storm or any effects it may have on us here in Brevard.

Thank you for all you do to partner with our agency each and every day to keep our community safe and I will continue to keep our community updated on the latest changes as we receive them!!
