BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Elections Supervisor Lori Scott announced on Friday she is resigning her position after 14 years, effective after Oct. 4 and just one month before the 2022 General Election.

“It is with a heavy heart I share the bittersweet news that I submitted my letter of resignation to Governor DeSantis,” said Scott in a Facebook post.

“After 32 years in public service, it is time to begin the next chapter of my life. It has been my absolute privilege to serve alongside my dedicated staff and poll workers through 27 elections over the last 14 years. I will dearly miss my elections family but know in my heart they will continue to conduct Brevard’s elections with the utmost professionalism and efficiency. I am forever grateful to the voters of Brevard. You put your faith in me, and it has been my honor to serve as your Supervisor. God bless.”

Scott’s abrupt and surprising resignation comes halfway into her current term of office. Scott was reelected to her fourth term in 2020 and was first elected in 2008.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will now make an appointment to fill the position.

Brevard County Elections Supervisor Lori Scott announced on Friday she is resigning her position after 14 years, effective after Oct. 4 and just one month before the 2022 General Election.

Scott posted her letter of resignation to Gov. DeSantis in which she recommended her director of information technology, Tim Bobanic, to fill her position.

“Mr. Bobanic’s 13½ years of experience in Florida’s elections, knowledge of the intricacies of running elections in Brevard and invaluable knowledge of our cybersecurity protocols, would allow for a seamless transition which I believe to be imperative as we head into the November 8 General Election,” said Scott.

Here in Brevard, both Republicans and Democrats have praised Scott’s work as supervisor of elections.

Last month, the Brevard County Commission unanimously approved a resolution put forward by Commissioner John Tobia honoring Scott and her staff for their work.

Tobia’s resolution praised Scott’s office for being “instrumental in ensuring the proper functionality of the government,” adding that it “consists of dedicated and exceptional civil servants.”

“The unsurpassable performance of Supervisor Scott has proved an essential component of the continued success and dependability of the office,” the resolution said.
