New DONATION will help children thrive, prosper and grow
Kiwanis Club of Melbourne provides funding for the installation of handicap-accessible door mechanisms at the Space Coast IcePlex on behalf of the Space Coast Sled Hockey organization.
BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA — Children and adults of the Space Coast Sled Hockey Team, along with visitors and members of the Space Coast IcePlex in Rockledge, will benefit from the Kiwanis Club of Melbourne with its donation of $9,720.31 to install handicap accessibility hardware to the doors at the Iceplex.
Active in Melbourne for 98 years, the club recently sponsored the grant from the Florida Kiwanis Foundation to fund this project.
Kids need Kiwanis, now more than ever before, and assisting the Space Coast Sled Hockey team is an example of how our club can meet a need in our community,” said Cindy Forstall, Florida Kiwanis Foundation Trustee.
“The Kiwanis Club of Melbourne is proud to have the opportunity to invest in our community’s children and adults with this project,” said Cindy Forstall.
The Kiwanis Club of Melbourne supports several local projects to benefit children, including Kids Closets at local elementary schools, Reusable Resource adventure Center workshops for teachers and students, high school Key Clubs projects and annual community holiday concerts presented by local elementary schools.
“We are grateful for the Kiwanis Club’s support of our mission to provide disabled members of our community with opportunities for personal growth through adaptive sports,” said Shawn Eising, President of BOD for Space Coast Sled Hockey.
“As a fully volunteer-run non-profit organization, Space Coast Sled Hockey, Inc. strives to recognize the physical and psychological challenges of those we serve. Simple tasks, such as opening doors, are often taken for granted by able-bodied individuals.
“Navigating the door to your home while carrying two arms full of grocery bags provides only a mere glimpse of the challenges faced by a person in a wheelchair. This endeavor to equip our home rink with automatic opening doors will greatly improve the lives of not only our current players but hopefully, create a more inviting environment which encourages others to seek out our help.”
Annually, the Kiwanis Club of Melbourne hosts fundraisers to raise money to support projects that benefit children.
The Kiwanis Club of Melbourne welcomes new members who want to serve their community. Information about becoming a member is available at 321-794-4142 by joining the weekly meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the Panera Bread on 275 E. Eau Gallie Boulevard in Indian Harbour Beach.
