16th consecutive month of 'best month ever' results

PETER CRANIS: July Tourist Development Tax has come in at $2.276 million – a record for the month of July, making it the 16th consecutive month of “best month ever” results. This is 7.5% ahead of the previous high July which was $2.117 million last year.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – July Tourist Development Tax has come in at $2.276 million – a record for the month of July, making it the 16th consecutive month of “best month ever” results. This is 7.5% ahead of the previous high July which was $2.117 million last year.

July is the heart of summer so it is an important month when measuring our overall summer performance. Year to date, we are at $19.918 million, well beyond our total collection in 2020-21 of $16.94 million, compared to $14.168 million the prior year, up 40.6%, and $13.9 million in 2018/19, up 43.1%.

This makes it the strongest 10 months in any year by over $5.75 million and the strongest first seven months of the calendar year we have ever had, $15.53 million compared to $11.65 million last year.

Looking at TDT by type, hotels represented 67.7% of the total for the month and vacation rentals were 31.5% of TDT which typically has been around that range the last four months.

The first six months of the year, vacation rentals were closer to 33% of the total. In terms of hotel/motel revenue by city, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral (34%) were, as usual, ahead of Melbourne and the Beaches (30%) as a percentage of the total.

This continues to show a slight upward trend for CB/CC which could be due to the stronger numbers of cruise passengers going out of Port Canaveral.

Looking ahead to August, we believe that will be a another record month, most likely exceeding the high of $1.39 million last year. If we come anywhere close to last August, then we will have had our best summer ever, beating the previous summer (June, July and August) which combined last year for $5.38 million in TDT and this is very likely.

PETER CRANIS: There are a lot of choices when it comes to beach destinations within Florida and certainly outside as well. We have to remain competitive by promoting all that we have to offer and what makes us different such as launches and space. It is a combination of telling our story and working every sales channel we can that will keep us at the front of the pack.
