BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Weather Service reports that Brevard County will get showers and gusty squalls on Tuesday ahead of Major Hurricane Ian’s expected landfall on Wednesday at about 8 p.m. in the Tampa Bay area.

According to the National Weather Service, sustained tropical-storm-force winds, which are from 39 to 73 mph, will arrive on the Space Coast Tuesday night and Brevard County can expect to receive anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of rain over the next several days, thus flooding is of concern.

On Tuesday, showers ahead of Ian will spread northward, and gusty squalls are expected to develop from the south in the afternoon, increasing in coverage northward through the evening and into the night.

These squalls will be capable of tropical storm force gusts. Winds will begin to increase ahead of Major Hurricane Ian tonight into Wednesday, with the earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds early Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne said, “sustained Tropical Storm force winds are likely, with stronger gusts in squalls, possibly reaching hurricane force. The earliest reasonable arrival time of Tropical Storm force winds is overnight into Wednesday morning. There is also a potential for a few tornadoes beginning Tuesday night.”

In Brevard County, complete your final preparations today. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 80s, due to partly cloudy/overcast skies, and overnight lows in the low to mid 70s.
