While at the Brevard Humane Society, it seemed Otis would never find his “fur-ever” home. That is until the Titusville Police Department’s K-9 Unit was in need of a new recruit. “Officers came to interact with Otis to see if he would be a good fit, and it was a match years in the making,” said a Brevard Humane Society spokesperson.  “At one and a half years old, Otis is now happy, healthy and loving his new mission in life.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While at the Brevard Humane Society, it seemed Otis would never find his “fur-ever” home.

Otis was originally brought to the Brevard Humane Society at just nine months old in November 2021 due to his owner having a baby.

He was soon adopted out but returned to the Brevard Humane Society for being too big.

With Otis being the loveable dog he is, he was adopted for a second time and again returned. This return was due to being overly protective of his new female owner.

“Otis is a big, smart, loyal dog that when he decides you are his ‘person,’ he is protective,” said a Brevard Humane Society spokesperson.

Founded in 1952, the Brevard Humane Society is Brevard County’s oldest established animal welfare organization.

A no-kill shelter, the Brevard Humane Society is dedicated to speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves. The organization educates the community on responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals, advocates for spaying/neutering to reduce the homeless pet population, and provides the best quality care to Brevard’s abandoned animals by placing them with responsible, caring owners in forever homes.

For more information, call 321-302-4828 log on to BrevardHumaneSociety.org, or visit the shelter at 1020 Cox Road in Cocoa.
