CANDIDATE PROFILE: Vice Mayor & District 6 Council Member Julie Sanders Running for Reelection

Melbourne Vice Mayor Julie Sanders is running for reelection on Nov. 8 to serve on the Melbourne City Council as the representative of District 6. Sanders was first elected to office in 2018 and was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor in 2021.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Vice Mayor Julie Sanders is running for reelection on Nov. 8 to serve on the Melbourne City Council as the representative of District 6.

Sanders, 51, was first elected to office in 2018 and was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor in 2021.

Sanders has identified these issues and goals among her top priorities:

■ Committed to preserving and protecting Melbourne’s natural resources, including the Indian River Lagoon.
■ Steadfast in ensuring accountability and transparency of local government.
■ Proud supporter of First Responders and the needs of their departments for the protection and advancement of cutting-edge technology for the community.
■ Dedicated to the citizens of Melbourne through public service and will continue to be available to the citizens of Melbourne.

A 30-year resident of Brevard County, Sanders grew up in New York, where she graduated high school. She then attended the College of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and elementary education.

Upon graduation, Sanders relocated to Melbourne to be closer to her family and has worked for Brevard Public Schools since 1996. Furthering her education while working, Sanders received a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in educational leadership.

She is currently working at Brevard Adult and Community Education as a building administrator.

Sanders takes an active role in providing many workforce training opportunities as her students are given the opportunity to obtain their high school diplomas through her program.

She is the current treasurer of the Space Coast League of Cities and has been active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Boys and Girls Club of Brevard.

Sanders lives in Melbourne with her two children, Kyle and Emily, and her significant other, Darin, who is a retired Air Force veteran currently working for NASA on the Artemis program as a systems engineer.

An avid outdoors enthusiast, she enjoys running 5Ks, snorkeling, diving, camping, and all things nature.
