BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Well folks, this past week was another exciting time for me and our entire team here at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office as we worked in various capacities to keep our community safe.

From taking bad people off our streets and putting them behind bars where they can’t victimize anyone else to showing our support for the various charitable organizations throughout Brevard County, our team had an amazing week doing what we love…protecting our citizens.

For me, this past week started off on Sunday as I traveled to Tallahassee to Chair the first meeting of the FDLE Transition Team that is helping newly appointed Commissioner Mark Glass create the strategic blueprint for the future of FDLE and their mission of supporting local law enforcement and protecting the state of Florida.

Now, after working a few days on the FDLE Transition initiative, I spent Thursday serving on the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission with other law enforcement leaders from across the state as we worked to make certain that Florida has the most professional law enforcement officers in the country.

As Friday rolled around, our team was flying Mach II with our hair on fire as we got ready to start off the weekend of activities that all began with the sound of motorcycles filling the air as we kicked off the annual Space Coast Motor Officer Competition where members of our agency and agencies from across the country showed off their incredible skills on two wheels.

While that was taking place, members of our Crime Prevention Unit and Animals Services participated in the Palm Bay Veterans Parade, showcasing our Teen Driver Simulator and, as always, reminding our citizens to adopt, not shop.

After leaving the Space Coast Motor Officer Competition, Junny and I headed to spend some time with our favorite buddies at the Down Syndrome Association of Brevard’s Buddy Walk. It was a great turnout, as always, and was one of the most touching events of my career.

Next up, myself and members of our K9 Unit attended the KSC Family Fun Day with food, games, and of course, a demo from our fastest deputies – the 4-legged ones.

This was a great event with the members of TWU Local 525 collecting stuffed animals for our Deputies to give to children who have been impacted by crime.

As if all of that was not enough, I then headed to the Azan Shrine in Melbourne, where members of our Ag Marine Unit entered their mouth-watering BBQ in the competition to help support the Brevard County Shriners.

My final pit stop of the week was an opportunity to watch the Space Coast Titan Softball Team, Coached by Officer Dan Rhoades of the Cocoa Police Department, as they competed in a tournament at Chain of Lakes in Titusville.

Wow, what a week for our team! Please join me in thanking our community and the members of our agency for all they do to make Brevard County the best place in the country to call home.
