Brevard Sheriff’s Office to Open Sandbag Distribution Sites in Cocoa and Melbourne Today at 8 a.m.

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN, AND HOPEFULLY, THE LAST ONE OF THE SEASON AND THE BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WANTS TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY IS READY TO WEATHER THE STORM.

By now, most of our community has started to monitor the storm system that is forming in the Atlantic with the potential to impact the state of Florida in the coming days.

As a result, our agency, along with our Public Safety partners, are working closely with the Brevard County Emergency Operation Center to monitor the storm and any potential impact to our immediate area.

With that said, now is the time to make your storm preparations and to be sure your family, your home, your business, and your pets, are well prepared to weather any storm that may come our way.

Currently, our biggest concern is focused on potential rainfall amounts, as our community is pretty saturated from the previous amount of rainfall that we have experienced lately. As a result, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will be distributing sandbags (at no cost) to our citizens, tomorrow only, at two locations.

In an effort to expedite the process, we will be using inmate labor to fill and load the sandbags directly into our citizen’s vehicles. This will be conducted under the supervision and direction of Sheriff’s Office employees, who are working through the night to prepare for these distribution sites.

Sandbags will be available at the following locations:

Tuesday, November 8th
HOURS: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

■ Brevard County Jail Complex
855 Camp Road, Cocoa
*Enter across from the Jail – to the south*

■ Wickham Park
2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne
*Enter/Exit on Parkway Drive ONLY*

Please go to the sandbag location closest to your residence and remember that each vehicle can obtain a maximum of 10 free sandbags so they can help prepare their homes and businesses for potential flooding.

Also, remember that lines can build quickly at the sandbag distribution sites, so please bring water, snacks, or anything you may need if there is an extended wait time.

As I always say…it takes a community to protect a community, so please be courteous, and if possible, try to help out your neighbors, especially our seniors, as we want to make sure everyone is safe and sound!
