BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Bridge to Success Conference was held recently at Eastern Florida State College and focused on college-wide initiatives that specifically address the challenges of enrollment and retention of male minority students who historically are underrepresented in our state colleges, according to Dr. Mike Cadore of Eastern Florida State College.

Through a collaboration with Brevard Public Schools’ Space Coast Junior/Senior High, Astronaut High, Titusville High, Merritt Island High, Rockledge High, and Cocoa High, principals identified 35 students that met EFSC eligibility with interest in pursuing college.

At the conference, students received information about FASFA and had help completing their college applications to EFSC, with all fees waived.

“We are confident that we can significantly improve the success rates of these students,” said Dr. Cadore.

“By helping them see themselves and their futures as successful and bright as they start to focus on the prospect of attending college while they are still in high school.”

A celebratory conference was held Dec. 2 to welcome the 144 male students accepted to EFSC who will all be attending in the Fall of 2023.

The students were met by EFSC employees and community leaders for motivational messages and preparation for success. This initiative will be hosted for Central and South high schools in Brevard County beginning in December.
