DAYTONA, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team defeated No. 19 Florida Southwestern to go 2-0 at the JUCO Shootout this weekend at Daytona State College.

The Titans improved to 10-0, which is the best start in program history, on Saturday afternoon with a 71-63 win over the Bucs.

Eastern Florida State College jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but Florida Southwestern came back with an 8-0 run of their own. The Bucs would continue to lead in the first quarter and held a 16-12 advantage after the first quarter.

But the No. 9-ranked Titans would go on a 15-1 run in the second quarter to take a 29-25 lead at halftime.

The lead would reach as much as 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the Bucs would cut into it with some big shots down the stretch.

But the Titans once again prevailed, picking up the eight-point win.

It is the second time the Titans have defeated Florida Southwestern this season and the fourth win against a Top 25 opponent.

Eastern Florida State College had three players score at least 13 points in the game, led by Leilani Guion, who had a team-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Teammate Elli Garnett hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Shadaria Smith added 13 points in the win.

The Titans will be back at Titan Field House Wednesday night against Miami Dade College at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free to the game, and fans can watch the game live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
