Eastern Florida State Women’s Basketball Team Travels to Georgia for Holiday Classic Tournament

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The No. 1-ranked Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team will be in Americus, Georgia for the South Georgia Tech Lady Jets Holiday Classic this weekend.

The Titans, who are 14-0 this season, will play three games in the tournament beginning on Friday.

Eastern Florida State College will open against No. 12 Pensacola State College after Snow College had to drop out because of flight issues. The matchup of top teams in the nations will tip off at 5 p.m. Friday.

Pensacola State College is 13-3 on the season and is coming off a loss to South Georgia Tech on Thursday.

The loss snapped an eight-game win streak for the Pirates. Pensacola State College is led by a trio of players who are averaging 11 points or more this season.

Gabriela Bendeck-Giron is averaging 12.4 points while teammates Sh’Naya Anderson and Ja’miyah Bryant are each averaging 11 points per game this season.

On Saturday the Titans will play Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 1 p.m. in Georgia. Chattahoochee Valley is 7-2 on the season and has a balanced scoring attack with six players averaging at least 7.9 points per game. Haley Sanders leads the offensive attack with 13.7 points per game.

The Titans will wrap up the tournament on Sunday, facing Shelton State Community College at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

Shelton State is 8-3 overall and has won seven straight games coming into the tournament. The Bucs are led by Nya Valentine who is averaging 14 points per game this season.

Teammate Asia Barclay is leading the nation in field goal percentage, making 77.8 percent of her shots this season.

Eastern Florida State College is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game and blocked shots.

Shadaria Smith is averaging 12.8 points per game while teammate L’or Eyeba Mputu is averaging 10 points and eight rebounds. Six players are averaging at least 8.3 points for the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Field House on Jan. 14 against Daytona State College at 2 p.m.
