WATCH: Cocoa Police Swears in Shehara Flowers as Department’s Newest Officer During Special Ceremony

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Oath of Office to a new police officer Friday morning.

Shehara Flowers, 34, was sworn in during a special ceremony in the presence of family, friends, police department personnel, and city council members.

Flowers was born and raised in Melbourne and is a 12-year veteran of the United States Army.

In 2021, she earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Southern New Hampshire University. Last week, she graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Eastern Florida State College.

She is married and has three sisters and one brother. It was her childhood dream to become a law enforcement officer.

Flowers will spend the next several months in training learning the department’s policies and procedures.

She will be assigned to a field training officer to learn all the operational procedures of the job. Upon successfully completing the training,

Officer Flowers will be assigned to a squad and deployed for solo patrol duties.
