DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN: Thad Altman Declares Candidacy for Brevard County Commission District 5 Seat

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Florida State Senator and current District 32 Florida State Rep. Thad Altman has declared his candidacy for the Brevard County Commission District 5 seat in 2024.
Current District 5 Brevard County Commissioner Kristine Zonka will term out in 2024 after serving eight years on the commission.
The District 5 boundaries are Palm Bay, Indialantic, Melbourne, Melbourne Village, West Melbourne, and a portion of unincorporated South Brevard.
This is a déjà vu moment for Altman as he previously served on the Brevard County Commission from 1984 to 1992.
Altman has served in the Florida House of Representatives since 2016 and previously served as State Senator for District 24 from 2008 to 2012 and as a result of redistricting, served as State Senator for District 16 from 2012 to 2016.
He previously served as a State Representative from 2003 to 2008. He represented District 30 as Chair of the Education Innovation and Cancer Preparation Committee, a member of the Environmental Protection and Financial Institutions Committee, and was appointed by the House Speaker to the boards of Space Florida and Workforce Florida.
As Brevard County Commissioner from 1985 to 1992, Altman served as chairman of the county commission, chairman of the Brevard Tourist Development Commission and chairman of the Regional Planning Commission.
Other candidates that have filed for the District 5 seat include Republican Dave Neuman and Democrat Vinnie Taranto.
