BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard Public Schools Discipline Steering Committee spent Friday morning reviewing Brevard Public Schools’ Discipline Plan.
The goal of the steering committee is to ensure the district’s Discipline Plan is up to date, staff members have a full understanding of the plan, and parents are aware of student responsibilities.
The Steering Committee consists of Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Schiller, members of local unions, and school principals.
“We made a lot of progress today in reviewing the Discipline Plan and came to an agreement on strategies to make sure our students and staff know they will be protected and safe,” said Schiller.
“With the School Board’s leadership, today’s meeting was a great example of BPS coming together to solve problems.”
The committee made suggestions including updating the Wireless Communications Device policy; encouraging teachers to make referrals of students not adhering to the current WCD policy; and updating the Discipline Plan.
The group will now work through those three items during the next Discipline Steering Committee meeting, which is scheduled for February 8 at 10 a.m.
