Eastern Florida State College’s Carlin Gelin, Sarah Knitter Named Athletes of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A couple of Eastern Florida State College student-athletes had big weeks for their teams and are the Orlando Health Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 12.
Women’s golfer Sarah Knitter and men’s basketball player Carlin Gelin were both honored for the first time.
Knitter, a freshman from Salzkotten, Germany, tied for fourth place overall with the University of Tampa’s Ana Maria Jimenez Rios who both finished at 1-under for the tournament. Knitter shot rounds of 69, 72, and 74 at the World Golf Invitational in St. Augustine.
For the tournament Knitter was 3-under on the par 3s and 4-under on the par 5s as she had 12 birdies in the tournament, which is tied for the most in the tournament.
Gelin, a freshman from Melbourne, started for the first time Wednesday night and recorded his first double-double, scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds in the Titan’s win against the Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Then on Saturday, Gelin had 13 points and 12 rebounds on the road against Polk State College.
It was the first two times this season that Gelin had scored double figures in a game as well as grabbing double-digit rebounds.
