Eastern Florida State Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten in Confernce Play with Win Over St. Petersburg

Titans improve to 23-1 and 7-0 in the Central Conference

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team remained unbeaten in the Central Conference after defeating St. Petersburg Saturday at Titan Field House.

The Titans improved to 23-1 overall and 7-0 in the Central Conference with a 96-70 victory over St. Petersburg. The win was the 20th straight conference win and 18 straight home wins for the Titans.

The two teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter as the Titans led 23-21 heading into the second quarter. It remained tight until Eastern Florida State College went on two runs that gave them a 10-point lead at halftime.

As has been the case for much of the season, Eastern Florida State College came out of the locker room for the third quarter focused, outscoring St. Petersburg 27-14. Up 80-57 after three quarters, the Titans pushed the lead to 28 points on a Leilani Guion basket.

Guion scored a team-high 21 points and had eight assists while Shadaria Smith scored 17 points. Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu finished with her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Teammate L’or Eyeba Mputu also had 14 points in the win while Elli Garnett had 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists Amelia Hassett added 10 points in the win.

Jullie Ruiz-Paneto led St. Petersburg College with 18 points as the Titans fell to 6-2 in the conference.

The women’s basketball team will host the Florida State College at Jacksonville Wednesday for a Central Conference game at 5:30 p.m.
